What Equipment is Included in A Complete PE Pipe Extrusion Line?
Polyethylene (PE) pipes are widely used in various fields such as water supply, gas, agricultural irrigation, and communication cable sheathing due to their excellent corrosion resistance, flexibility, light weight, and long service life. To achieve efficient and stable production of PE pipes, a complete PE pipe extrusion line is essential.
I. Raw Material Handling System
1. Raw Material Dryer (Optional)
Although PE resin has low hygroscopicity, in high-humidity environments or when extremely high pipe quality is required, drying equipment is still needed to remove trace amounts of moisture to prevent bubbles or surface defects during the extrusion process.
2. Automatic Feeding System
Includes a vacuum feeding machine or central feeding system, used to automatically transport PE granules from the storage silo to the extruder hopper, improving automation and reducing manual intervention.
II. Extrusion Main Machine System
3. Single-Screw Extruder
This is the core equipment of the entire production line. Depending on the pipe specifications, single-screw extruders with diameters ranging from Φ45mm to Φ250mm are usually selected. Its main function is to heat and melt the PE granules, plasticize them uniformly, and extrude them at a stable pressure and flow rate.
Key components: Screw (L/D ratio is usually 25:1~30:1), barrel, heating and cooling system, drive motor, control system.
Technical requirements: High plasticizing capacity, low energy consumption, and precise temperature control.
III. Pipe Forming System
4. Mold (Die and Mandrel)
The mold determines the outer diameter and wall thickness of the pipe. PE pipes commonly use straight-through or side-feed molds, which need to be customized according to the pipe specifications (e.g., DN20–DN1200).
5. Vacuum Sizing Tank
Through vacuum suction and spray cooling, the newly extruded high-temperature pipe blank is rapidly sized and initially cooled, ensuring dimensional accuracy and roundness of the outer diameter.
6. Spray Cooling Water Tank
Further cools the pipe uniformly to prevent deformation. It is usually equipped with a multi-stage temperature-controlled spray system, the length of which is adjusted according to the pipe diameter and production speed. IV. Traction and Cutting System
7. Traction Machine
Uses a crawler-type or double-track clamping structure to provide stable, adjustable traction force, ensuring uniform pipe movement and preventing stretching deformation or accumulation.
8. Cutting Machine
Planetary cutting machine: Suitable for large-diameter PE pipes (such as gas pipes), capable of online, chip-free cutting with a smooth cut surface.
Saw blade cutting machine: Commonly used for small and medium-diameter pipes.
Equipped with an automatic length measuring device for fixed-length cutting.
V. Auxiliary and Control System
9. Pipe Stacking Rack/Turning Table
Automatically stacks the cut pipes neatly according to the set length, facilitating subsequent handling and packaging.
10. Central Control System (PLC+HMI)
Integrates parameter monitoring and adjustment of the entire production line, including temperature, rotation speed, traction speed, vacuum degree, water temperature, etc., supporting data storage, fault alarm, and remote operation, improving the level of intelligence.
11. Edge Material Recycling System (Optional)
Crushes and granulates edge materials generated during startup debugging or from defective products for reuse, reducing raw material waste.
VI. Other Supporting Equipment (Configured as needed)
Mixing machine: Used to add color masterbatch, antioxidants, and other functional additives for raw material pre-mixing.
Online wall thickness measuring instrument: Real-time monitoring of pipe wall thickness uniformity.
Laser diameter measuring instrument: Non-contact detection of outer diameter size.
Coding and marking machine: Prints specifications, production date, standards, and other information on the pipe surface.
A complete PE pipe extrusion production line covers the entire process from raw material processing to finished product output. Each piece of equipment works in conjunction to ensure the quality, efficiency, and consistency of the pipes. With the development of intelligent manufacturing, modern PE pipe production lines are continuously upgrading towards high automation, energy efficiency, and digitalization. When selecting equipment, companies should reasonably configure the equipment based on their product positioning, production capacity requirements, and budget to achieve the best return on investment.
